ATN X Sight ll
I have been using add on night vision devices for years. My brother-in-law has been using a dedicated day/night scope and swears by it. So, I should give it a go and let you folk know how I got on.
Out Of The Box
I have got the X Sight ll Hd. Opening up the box you have a carry bag, cleaning cloth, small Allen key, and paperwork.
The sight comes with its own i/r illuminator which is a plus but this sight comes with no batteries. In the bag, you will also find a sunshade and extension tube.
Straight out the box, what hit me was the sheer weight of the scope. At 2.55 lb its no lightweight, though, it does balance well on the rifle. Something to remember here, The sight runs on a Picatinny rail so if your rifle isn’t equipped with one, you will need to buy an adapter.
Power for the sight comes from 4 AA batteries, X Sight recommends lithium rechargeable batteries. These, depending on the power rating will give you up to 4 hours. You could also use the ATN power pack which will give you 20 hours plus, amazing right? well, that depends. Unfortunately, the i/r is powered by cr123a batteries, these are expensive if you buy disposable and equally pricey if you buy rechargeable, add a designated charger, and its top money!
I own an i/r illuminator that runs on the simple 18650 batteries, this runs for 4 hours on a charge, the ATN i/r seems to only give you just over 2 hours on a charge. Options here are either, buy an i/r that runs 1860, Buy extra cr123a batteries and carry with you or limit your trip to 2 hours. This is a massive negative in my opinion.
The X Sight boasts some top-end features, I’m actually amazed by what it has. Do remember, this is an “out of date” scope as ATN now does the 4k version. Below are the key features.

Can I Be Honest
Being completely honest, it is packed full of features, some of which I haven’t even tried out yet! we will be giving this scope a serious run for its money in the next few weeks. Be sure to come back to read my findings. Up until here, I have to say, it seems a lot of scope for not a lot of money, what don’t I like? the appalling battery life and expensive batteries for the i/r.
